For examples of smart marketing, one needs to look no further than the popular TV show, American Idol.
Why? Smart marketers need to know what their customers want. To find out, they use a simple tool called a survey. When marketers survey their customers, they learn what the customer wants and produce products accordingly. If you produce products without using a survey first, you are guessing.
American Idol uses technology (special phone lines and text messaging) to ask America what they want. They are virtually assured that Americans will buy the product (CD's, etc.) because they CHOSE it.
No matter who wins the competition, the producers of the show are guaranteed success.
